DIALED IN COVERS - Shama Final NEW.png

In this episode we Dial In with somatic therapist and breath work specialist, Shama who uses many modalities to work with healing the nervous systems of her clients. Healing, de-conditioning, psychotherapy, breath work, trauma, and dialing into the authentic self are just a few of the topics discussed with this amazing woman.

KEY TAKE-AWAYS

  • We start off by hearing Shama’s story of her own healing and the various modalities that she used to deal with the life challenges that she was going through. Along the way she stumbled upon meditation and the Osho Centre. She talks about how these therapies have helped her. She then dived into these modalities and it became her profession.

  • We then go into the various modalities that she uses now, which include psychotherapy. She talks about how important it is to really involve the body in order to deal with the trauma that we are holding and release it. She also uses meditative therapies, EFT, biodynamic psychotherapy and breath work, just to name a few. The aim of all of them for her is to create more relation and deeper coherence in the nervous system. When she works with people, she does a nervous system assessment and figures out the right modality to start with. She then explains to us what somatic experiencing is. Its aim is to release the symptoms of PTSD and other mental and physical health problems. Trauma can result from almost any experience. Trauma is created when a devastating moment is frozen in time. This modality helps people strong enough to handle the energy associated with the trauma, and helps people to free the energy that is trapped in the body from the trauma. We can not achieve healing without the body, as all of the information is stored in the body. Our nervous system is losing its ability to complete coherence. When we can not complete a survival energy, it keeps sending us the same message, and causes dis-regulation. If you are in flight and fight all the time, there is no time to digest and rest.

  • We then talk about breath work and how it’s used in therapy.

  • We then talk about healing and what is healing, the importance of social engagement and having a “tribe”. She reminds us that we can ask for help and that we do deserve to receive help and support.

  • We then find out about how she received her name “Shama”, which is a very wonderful story!

  • Shama then explains the importance of de-conditioning, how we get conditioned and how it leads to us not knowing our “truth” and authentic self. De-conditioning is about breaking that Armour and allow us to meet with our authentic self. She shares the importance of emotional releasing and also talks about how not every modality will be “the” modality for everyone, it is based on their specific need.

  • We then learn how Shama Dials in to “self” and hear some final words of wisdom from this amazing woman and healer. She talks about the importance of expressing oneself and the importance of “feeling”, not holding emotions in, and not allowing emotions to move through. When we do this, there is no energy flow, and thus no light and joy within us. We use all of our energy to hold these emotions in. She talks about the importance of reaching out when we need help, and also using this time that we have with covid to really tune in an explore what we really want and need. “No one is alone, we are safe in this world, there is support available outside. The best support is within us, because we have all of the resources we need to heal ourselves, sometimes we just need some guidance on finding the right key for the right door.”

I hope you all enjoyed this episode as much as I did, thank you so much Shama for sharing your wisdom with us!
