Dialed In Podcast 007 ~ The Healing Power of Psychedelics and Spiritual Practice with Trevor Millar

Trevor Millar

In this episode, we Dial In with Trevor Millar to talk about the healing power of psychedelics and spiritual practice. Join us for an information filled episode!

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Psychedelics have an extraordinary healing power.

  • Trevor has been an advocate for decriminalization and is very well versed when speaking about these medicines. He starts the podcast off with sharing information about Ibogaine, a root that originates from Africa. He talks about how it has a 40-60% success rate in treating opioid addictions, which of course there needs to be more science on, and there will hopefully be more studies on this in the future.

  • Trevor had tried to get Ibogaine on Canada’s “special access” drug program list (for those that are terminally ill) and unfortunately, hasn’t been approved for the process (yet), as the medicine does not have enough data on it. Due to the fact that Ibogaine isn’t actually illegal, ‘section 56’ doesn’t apply. (As you know psilocybin was recently approved under the section 56 for use by the terminally ill and also for those with severe depression).

  • Trevor also talks to us about an award winning documentary Dosed that he was featured in. The documentary features healing from addiction through the use of magic mushrooms.

  • He also talks to us about the stigma of psychedelics, the war on drugs, and why decriminalization is so important. “Lets at least make the plants legal, the mushrooms are incredibility safe. Let’s just set the plants free.”

  • He then goes on to talk about the CPA (Canadian Psychedelic Association), which was newly formed in Canada in 2019. The CPA is both a beacon where people can come to talk about issues related to psychedelics as well as an umbrella for all involved in psychedelics.

  • He also talks about how diversity and inclusion are an important topic within the Psychedelic Community, and how the CPA supports this.

  • He talks about why these medicines are needed now more than ever on our planet.

  • He also talks about one of his favorite books, The Course in Miracles, and talks about how important doing things with Love in our hearts is.

  • Trevor shares with us his daily meditation practice, and how psychedelics have given him the experiential reality that he was seeking in his spiritual practices. “You get to lift the veil for a moment, and you’re like, ‘ok, I’m on the right track, this is what I’ve been aiming for, I’m going to stay on this path’, because ultimately what we are looking for are those unitive peak experiences, without the use of the exogonist external substances that you are bringing into the system. We want to turn our system into one that releases those substances all the time. The psychedelic experience can give you the look over the fence, where you can say, oh yes, that’s where I want to go, and it’s the daily practices that will lead you to that hop over the fence on the permanent basis.”

  • Trevor also talks about his chance meeting with Sadhguru and how his practices have helped his spiritual development.

  • We also get to hear about what Dialing In means to Trevor, the importance of good friends and good community, as well as continual learning along with persistent spiritual practice.

  • “What can we do is tap into that source energy. It’s an energy that gives us peace, a sense of belonging, and a sense of feeling at “home”.

  • We finish up with Trevor sharing with us his “go to mantra”.
